The community of Giske consists of several islands that are connected to the mainland by bridges and a long sub-sea tunnel. We shall explore two of the islands today – the ‘Saga Island’ of Giske, and picturesque Godøy.

The largest tank contains 4,000,000 litres of seawater and we can view the marine life through an acrylic panel that is 26.5 centimetres thick, 18 metres long and four metres high.

Ålesund is the largest town on the northwest coast of Norway. It has a spectacular setting - built on three islands close to the ocean and with a backdrop of impressive mountain peaks.

This tour shows us parts of the splendid town and takes us to the breathtaking viewpoint on Mount Aksla, for the best panoramic view of this spectacular scenery.

The track crosses the river and ascends above a waterfall to the top, where we will have a fantastic view of the Briksdal Glacier – an arm of the mighty Jostedal Glacier.

Our experienced local skipper will steer our course on a short cruise to the bottom of the fjord arm at Loen, to one of the best fishing spots.

This full day tour will highlight the best of the area, including a cruise on the UNESCO World Heritage listed Geirangerfjord.

We shall walk up to the Kjenndalen Glacier – part of the mighty Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier in mainland Europe – for a fantastic view.

Holo Farm is a traditional mountain sheep farm 470 metres above sea level. It is situated high up in the middle of the Flåm valley overlooking the fantastic fjord and mountain landscape of Fjord Norway.

This is a unique opportunity for a closer encounter with the Sognefjord. Figuring on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the Nærøyfjord is a spectacular fjord arm – part of the mighty Sognefjord – so narrow we will almost be able to touch the mountains on either side. The fjord is sheltered by these mountains and is thus perfect for kayaking.

We will travel as far as Østerbø. Here refreshments are served in the small mountain lodge, once a farm but uninhabited since the 1920’s.

From Flåm (meaning ‘large expanse of land between high mountains’), we board the train to take us to Myrdal. The track we will follow is an engineering wonder, ascending to 867 metres (2,844 feet) within just 50 minutes. It has a gradient of 1 in 18 over a distance of 20 kilometres (12 miles). The world famous railway was built between 1920 and 1940, and was in fact opened by German troops, who had a large military camp in Flåm.

Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has also been rated by National Geographic as the world’s number one natural heritage site. Today we shall have a cruise from the Sognefjord and along the Nærøyfjord.

What a lovely way to spend our time – a journey on the renowned Flåm Railway, followed by a scenic cycle ride back down the valley.

In the afternoon we board our train bound for Myrdal and Flåm. The first part of the journey will be on the Oslo – Bergen Express across the vast, barren Hardangervidda mountain plateau (we will have a good view of the Hardangerjøkulen glacier).

This walking tour will show us the sights of Bergen in the company of an experienced guide and we shall also have a trip on the Funicular.

Our tour will take us up one of the seven hills that surround Bergen to get a bird's eye view of the city and surroundings, followed by a drive through both old and new parts of Bergen.
