Few people are aware that Gibraltar is one of the best places in the world to view cetaceans the whole year round.

The rock of Gibraltar, overlooking the entrance to the Mediterranean and standing nearly 425 metres (1,400 feet) above sea level, is reputed to be one of the legendary Pillars of Hercules.

Gibraltar is a British overseas territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe at the entrance of the Mediterranean overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. The territory covers 6.843 square kilometres (2.642sq mi) and shares a land border with Spain to the north. Gibraltar has historically been an important base for the British Armed Forces and is the site of a Royal Navy base.

Gibraltar is one of the most densely populated territories in the world, with a population of 29,286 estimated in 2008, approximately 4,290 inhabitants per square kilometre (11,100/sq mi). The growing demand for space is being increasingly met by land reclamation; reclaimed land currently comprises approximately one tenth of the territory’s total area.

The official currency of Gibraltar is the Gibraltar Pound.

We depart from the quayside and begin our tour by making our way past the British/Spanish land frontier.

Malta became a British possession in 1814. This little island bravely supported Britain throughout both World Wars and earned a unique George Cross for its heroism during World War II. Despite obtaining independence in 1964, it still remained part of the commonwealth. Malta became a republic in 1974 and joined the EU on 1st May 2004.

The capital of Malta is Valletta, which is built on the northern part of the Scriberras peninsula, separating the Grand Harbour from Marsamxett Harbour. This fascinating city is completely surrounded by fortifications and dates back to the mid-16th century.

Our tour begins with a drive to the picturesque village of Hrastovlje, which lies in the upper Rižana Valley, and is well-known for the fortified Church of the Holy Trinity and its frescoes.

From prehistoric settlements and medieval peasant lodgings to modern hotels, luxurious villas and picturesque gardens, nature has been considerably generous to Bled, having gifted it with a sub-alpine climate, healing springs and an idyllic background.

Piran, full of Italian charm, is a quaint and friendly village, which is watched over by a hilltop belfry. The fishing village has altered very little in over 400 years.

Despite its small size, Slovenia is quite varied in terms of landscape. Between the Alps and the sea lies the broad belt of the Slovenian Karst, which is a part of the great Dinaric mountain range.

Upon arrival at Krka, we will be taken on a sightseeing tour, where we will see the spectacular waterfalls, the last one being Skradinski Buk, its traditional watermill and the Ethnological Museum.

Upon arrival at Trogir, our guide will lead us on a walking tour of this ancient city, which was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1997.

Our tour departs from the quayside on foot where we shall make out way into the heart of the ancient town enclosing Diocletian’s Palace.

This tour gives us the opportunity to learn about the rich cultural and historical heritage of Montenegro, as well as its natural beauty.

Departing the quayside, we drive to the coastal town of St Stefan, where we can enjoy an impressive view of this fortified island settlement near Budva.

Essentially, the city of Kotor has retained its medieval appearance. The Rector’s Palace, patrician mansions dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, the cathedral and churches from the 12th to the 18th centuries all testify to the skill and enthusiasm of the builders and high artistic standards of Kotor.

The Achilleion Palace is neo-classical in style, with large frescoed rooms, ancient motifs and souvenirs of Elisabeth and Wilhelm II.

This tour offers us the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Corfu from the comfort of our coach.

From the port of Corfu it is a scenic drive of approximately 45 minutes to Palaeokastritsa, a popular seaside resort and possibly once the site of Scheria, the city of Alcinous – King of the Phaecians – who gave hospitality to Odysseus.

During our boat trip we can admire the Old Fortress with its pretty bays and the Palace of Mon Repo, located on a hilltop in the region of the old Corcya City (Paleopolis).
