The Gothenburg that we know today was inaugurated as a town in 1621, after King Gustav II Adolf, tiring of Danish Raids, gave the order to build a strong fortress to secure Sweden’s only western port. Gothenburg grew rapidly into the trading and maritime city envisaged by the King, and during the 18th century, the East India Trading Company became Sweden’s first international trading company.
Continuing our coach journey, we shall travel 40 kilometres (25 miles) south of Gothenburg, where, on a peninsula, we find one of Sweden's largest attractions – the beautiful Tjolöholm manor house.

One example of East Germany’s preparation for the so-called Third World War was the construction of highly specialised military bunkers.

we will arrive in Bad Doberan. Here we shall visit the 700-year-old Minster, constructed of red bricks, and can also stroll through the park surrounding this lovely church.
