CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THIS TOUR, WE MAY EXPERIENCE SOME QUEUING FOR THE CABLE CAR.
A cable-car ride up the World Heritage Site of Table Mountain is a highlight of any visit to Cape Town, and it is the centrepiece of today’s tour.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Departing from the harbour we'll head for the Bo-Kaap, which means "Above Cape" because of its location up against the slopes of Table Mountain. In the early 18th century, thousands of slaves from Java, Ceylon and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town. After slavery was abolished, their descendants, known as the Cape Malays, settled here. We'll visit the museum, which portrays the lifestyle of the typical Malay family residence found in this area.

Cape Point, at the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula, offers some of the most spectacular views in the world. The drive here is just as inspiring, passing steep mountains, secluded coves and sweeping beaches, as well as villages and fishing communities.CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Departing from the pier we will retrace the history of Cape Town on this fascinating tour which will begin with a drive to the Castle of Good Hope, South Africa’s oldest surviving building. Here we can view the military museum and the famous William Fehr collection of art before continuing to Slave Lodge. Dating back to 1679 it was used as slave quarters by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The lodge displays a diverse array of Ceramics, silver, textiles and artefacts.

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
Departing our ship we will enjoy a brief tour of Cape Town “by night” before we drive up Kloof Nek and follow the road which leads to the top of Signal Hill. The views from here are dramatic, especially at night when the lights of the city sparkle like jewels in the surrounding darkness.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
For nearly 400 years Robben Island, 12 kilometres from Cape Town, was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment. It was here that rulers sent those they regarded as political troublemakers, social outcasts and the unwanted of society. During the apartheid years Robben Island became internationally known for its institutional brutality. The duty of those who ran the Island and its prison was to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morale. Some freedom fighters spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for their beliefs.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
Perhaps one of the most surprising monuments, and particularly beautiful when seen from the river, is the memorial to Prince Henry – the mastermind navigator behind Portugal’s voyages of exploration and subsequent wealth.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
After re-crossing the bridge back into Lisbon, we continue with a visit to the Church of the Jeronimos Monastery – a 16th century architectural masterpiece designed in the Gothic-Manueline style.

LISBON, PORTUGAL
The origins of this quaint little town, rising majestically above the lovely Gaeiras vineyards, are obscured in history, but may date back as far as 308 BC.

LISBON, PORTUGAL
Next we travel to the outside of the city, to the site of the EXPO 98 World Exhibition to visit the main attraction here, the spectacular Oceanarium. Designed by American architect Peter Chermayeff, it is the largest Oceanarium in Europe and features sea life found in the world’s greatest oceans.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
Take a tour with a difference, around the inlands of Serra Sintra.
MINDELO, CAPE VERDE ISLANDS
The Cape Verde Islands emerged from a colonial culture - aspects of this culture are clearly seen on this tour, from its mixed population, buildings, monuments and traditions. Our drive will give us the opportunity to feel in touch with the nature of the island and the style of its population, across the street markets of the city, and the lunar view of the landscape between the city and Catfish Bay Beach.
TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS
Departing the quayside, we take a short drive in the direction of La Laguna in order to join the road to the Esperenza Forest, with its cool eucalyptus vegetation and tantalising glimpses of Mount Teide. Two photo stops will be made before we arrive at El Portillo, where we can enjoy a short coffee break.

Departing the quayside, we drive by La Laguna, the second most important town of Tenerife, located in the centre of the Agurre Valley and just a few kilometres from the capital. As we continue westwards, we pass Tacoronte, one of the best growing areas on the island.
TAKORADI, GHANA
Our drive from Takoradi Port to the village of Duakor will take approximately 75 minutes, so we can relax and take in the views of scenic farming communities growing sugar cane for the local gin production, leading on to the fishing villages along the coast. Duakor is a typical fishing community of mud huts with thatched roofs. The villagers’ livelihood depends entirely on fishing and fish preservation. We will pay a brief courtesy call on the local Chief and his elders. Afterwards, we continue with a visit to the local village school, to interact with the pupils and be entertained by them. We can also observe the villagers participating in their economic activities of fish preservation, using centuries old methods, and Gari (grated cassava) processing. Gari is the staple diet for most low income earners in Ghana.
TAKORADI, GHANA
We leave Takoradi Port for our drive to Kakum National Park, which will take approximately an hour and a half. We will pass scenic farming communities on the way. Kakum National Park is a tropical semi-deciduous rainforest covering 357 square kilometres (138 square miles). The reserve has been created to protect one of the last vestiges of Ghana’s rapidly vanishing rainforest and the rare wildlife it contains. For the local people, the forest is also the abode of gods and spirits who dwell in sacred trees, rivers, stones and animals. It is not only a physical world but also spiritual, portraying their beliefs and culture. We will walk along the Kuntan Trail, through the remaining rainforest, for approximately one hour. For the young at heart, if we wish, we can experience the breathtaking canopy walkway, suspended 30 metres (100 feet) above the ground amongst the tree tops, which affords the adventurous amongst us a panoramic view of the flora of the forest. There is an extra cost for the canopy walkway of US$18.00 per person, payable locally (price correct at time of printing).
WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA
Swakopmund is situated approximately 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of Walvis Bay. Today it is a popular holiday resort but it had a very important function as a harbour town during the German colonial time and the numerous old buildings dating back to the turn of the century give the town a special flair. Considered by most Namibians to be the country’s only real holiday resort, this old German town spreads from the mouth of the Swakop River into the surrounding desert plain. Climatically more temperate than the interior, the palm lined streets, immaculate old buildings and well kept gardens give Swakop (as the locals call it) a unique atmosphere, and make it a pleasant oasis in which to spend a few days.
WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA
We depart the harbour and drive past the Walvis Bay Lagoon - the oldest lagoon on the Namibian coast and in existence for some 5,000 years. It is a recognised international bird sanctuary - a happy and safe haven for up to 160,000 birds, as well as a feeding station for 200,000 shore birds and terns, on their biannual migration routes to and from the Arctic region. Next we pass by Dune 7, the largest of the local coastal dunes.
WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA
Today we will take to the skies onboard a six seater, high winged Cessna 210 aircraft for an amazing journey over richly contrasting desert and coastal scenery. From the ship, there will be a 15 minute transfer to the airport.WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA
The cold Atlantic waters of the Namib coast are home to a wealth of marine life, including two dolphin species and the Cape fur seal. The 1.3 metre (4 foot) Heaviside’s dolphin favours inshore areas and bays and is seen throughout the year, while the larger Atlantic bottlenose dolphin is more commonly seen between August and March.
WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA
This scenic 4x4 adventure tour will give us the opportunity to experience the vast sand dunes of the Namib Desert, which spread inland for 80 to 130 kilometres (50 to 80 miles), as their colours shift with the light and wind changes the shapes.
