Exploring The Hardangerfjord

Our excursion to the Hardangerfjord – one of Norway’s most popular fjords, with beautiful fruit orchards lining the sides and reflections of the magnificent mountains on the crystal clear water – begins at the pier in Bergen, when we board our coach. -

Lysoen Island

Passing the city park and lake, our tour continues south through Bergen’s attractive suburbs. On Nordås Lake we can see the royal residence, ‘Gamlehaugen’. Fana Mountain offers us a superb view, though only 230 metres (755 feet) above sea level. -

Nusfjord & Vestvagoy Museum

Our excursion starts in Leknes, from where we cross underneath the narrow sound between Lilleeid and Napp to Flakstadøy. We proceed to the idyllic fishing village of Nusfjord – protected by UNESCO – where we can study the architecture of the colourful fishermen’s dwellings. -
Borg Viking Centre & Ballstad

Departing from the landing stage in Leknes, we pass through this administrative centre of Vestvågøy Island ¬– skirting its little airport. All the while we have the Himmeltindan Mountains in our view, the tallest on the island at approximately 1,000 metres (3,000 feet) above sea level. -
Introduction to the Lofoten Islands
LEKNES, LOFOTEN ISLANDS, NORWAY
On the island of Vestvågøy, we travel by coach through Leknes – the municipality’s centre of administration and trade, yet with less than 2,000 residents. We then proceed to the small, traditional village of Ballstad for a short photo stop. -
Fjordland Scenery
OLDEN, NORWAY
Driving along the fjord, passing small farms and orchards, we start climbing towards Utvik Mountain, where a photo stop is made at a viewpoint to take in the wonderful panorama. Down on the other side of the mountain, we pass through the very green Våtedalen (‘the wet valley’), a grazing site for sheep and goats. -
Briksdal Glacier

Our excursion starts from the charming village of Olden, where we pass the church dating back to 1759 and, further up the valley, a red painted church from the early 1900’s – a gift from an American who settled in the village. He was a collector of Norwegian antiques and his home is today a museum. -
Jostedal Centre & Videseter
OLDEN, NORWAY
From Olden we travel through Stryn, the administrative centre of the area, and follow the salmon rich Stryn River. We drive up to the crystal clear Stryn Lake, where we shall visit the Jostedal Glacier National Park Centre. -
Kjenndalen Glacier & Lovatnet Lake Cruise
OLDEN, NORWAY
Departing the quayside by coach, we travel along the fjord until we arrive at the picturesque village, and popular yet peaceful resort, of Loen. Loen has it all: fjord, fertile land, views of mountains and glaciers, and the Lovatnet Lake. From Loen we continue to Kjenndalen Valley for our first stop. -
Fjord Fishing
OLDEN, NORWAY
We shall join the 10 metre (30 feet) boat Isabella, chartered especially for us today, directly from our ship. Our experienced local skipper will steer our course on a short cruise to the bottom of the fjord arm at Loen, to one of the best fishing spots. -
Scenic Drive To Old Valley Farm

This tour offers us the opportunity to sample Norwegian agriculture, nature and local culture. Our trip takes us through scenic Olden Valley and ends up at Aabrekk Farm, where the lady of the house, Signe, and her husband Rune welcome us. -
Jotunheimen

We will travel through the Jotunheimen National Park with its dramatic alpine peaks, glaciers and waterfalls. The Sognefjell mountain road is a national tourist route and the highest mountain crossing in Northern Europe. -
Nigardsbreen Glacier

This short trip to Jostedalen takes us from Skjolden, along the fjord to Gaupne, then through the narrow Jostedalen valley and all the way up to the Nigardsbreen. We shall park very close to the glacier, which means a fantastic view and great possibilities for photographs. -

This breathtaking trip takes us through the narrow, lush Jostedalen valley to the heart of the blue ice world in the Jostedalsbreen National Park. We will visit Breheimsenteret, an information centre for the glacier and the Jostedalsbreen National Park. -
Urnes Stave Church & Sogn Folk Museum
SKJOLDEN, NORWAY
Today we will drive along the fjord of Luster and make a short stop to see the beautiful Feigumfossen waterfall. Continuing, we travel along the Romantic Road to the Urnes Stave Church, which is Norway’s oldest stave church and is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. -
Stavanger City Tour
STAVANGER, NORWAY
A visit will be made to the monument ‘Three Swords in the Rock’, where three majestic swords are planted in the mountain as a memorial to King Harald. We then proceed to the Norwegian Petrol Museum presenting the Norwegian oil story. -
Boat Trip to Lysefjord
STAVANGER, NORWAY
After walking along the pier, we board a boat which will take us on a tour of the Stavanger archipelago and the splendid Lysefjord. Lysefjord, which cuts almost 50 kilometres (31 miles) deep into the country, is surrounded by steep mountainsides and polished by glaciers and waterfalls. -
Utstein Monastery

From the pier we travel by coach through the harbour area, with its quaint fish and farmers’ market. We continue past both old and modern residential districts, heading for the verdant and peaceful Mosterøy Island. -

The Tromsø Wilderness Centre is located approximately 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the city. Here we will enjoy an exciting programme of events including a chance to meet some of the 130 huskies. -
City Sightseeing

We travel from the pier through the busy city centre, past the market square with the statue of the king who founded the city (interestingly it forms the axis of the world’s largest sundial), to the impressive, Gothic style Nidaros Cathedral. -
Orkdal & Lokken Mines

This excursion takes us along the shores of the Trondheimsfjord – at 126 kilometres (80 miles), the third longest in Norway. Travelling through the suburbs, we later reach Gaulosen, a branch of the main fjord, before following the Orkdalsfjord to the village of Orkanger. -
