Departing from the pier, we shall have a 20 minute drive to the ferry for our trip across the lagoon to the Curonian Spit, which is also known as Neringa. The legend says that the giant Neringa gathered an apron full of sand and poured it into the sea forming a long stretch of land, which divided the sea from the lagoon and thus made the fishermen safer.

Copenhagen, which was proclaimed as the national capital in 1417, has a long history as the ‘Royal’ city of Denmark. The location of the city, at the mouth of the Baltic and astride the trade routes between continental Europe and Scandinavia, made it the obvious choice for the Danish Monarchs, who once reigned over large parts of Sweden and Norway.
