Home of the influential Londonderry family, the famous gardens span 98 acres and include Sunken, Shamrock and Italian Gardens as well as the amazing Dodo Terrace and the Temple of the Winds – a hilltop banqueting house designed by James ‘Athenian’ Stuart in the 1780s.

Recently widowed and looking for somewhere to escape from the public eye, she vowed to save the castle from destruction. This she did, and in the process created a much-loved holiday home to which she returned every summer for the rest of her life.
