We shall embark on our tour to the island’s most southerly point. En route we pass through the rural township of Fladderbister and pause to admire the view of Mousa Broch – the tallest and best preserved of all Brochs (Iron Age drystone hollow walled structure) in Britain.

We shall embark on our tour to the island’s most southerly point. We shall travel directly to Jarlshof where we will walk through time. The archaeological remains at Jarlshof extend over a time span of more than 3,000 years from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages and can be seen as a microcosm of Shetland history.

Our tour starts in the fishing port of Lerwick, founded back in the 17th century. The centre is full of character, especially by the water’s edge where the older buildings are situated. Moving through the town we will see the Town Hall and the Museum before turning west to the old town of Scalloway – the original main town, and second largest settlement on the island. En route we will stop at the Clickimin Broch – a good example of a broch tower with surrounding structures dating from the Iron Age.

Sumburgh Head Birdcliffs

We shall embark on our tour to the island’s most southerly point. We arrive at the cliffs at Sumburgh Head Lighthouse. The cliffs around Sumburgh Head are on the southernmost tip of Mainland Shetland, and attract thousands of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, shags and fulmars. Gannets are regularly seen off shore and sometimes whales and dolphins.
