ROAD TOWN, TORTOLA Boarding a catamaran from the marina in Road Town, we commence an exhilarating cruise across the Sir Francis Drake Channel, retracing the paths of adventurers such as Drake, Columbus and Kidd on this historic waterway – scene of many skirmishes between the British, Spanish and Dutch, ROAD TOWN, TORTOLA Driving along the Ridge Road, we pass the tiny hamlets of Manchester, Long Trench and Fahie Hill before vistas of Todmans, Meyers and Chalwell come into view prior to stopping at Mountain view at the entrance to the Sage Mountain National Park PHILIPSBURG, ST MAARTEN Sail in style! Onboard the catamaran we can sample freshly made baguettes and take advantage of a very open bar (including champagne!), while enjoying the thrill of sailing at up to 20 knots on the sparkling sea. FUNCHAL, MADEIRA Eira do Serrado, where the viewpoint 1,094 metres (3,500 feet) high overlooks the valley of Curral das Freiras (the Nun’s Valley) – a settlement that grew after the 16th century, when Madeira was attacked by French Pirates. Legend has it that the ‘White Witch’ Annie Palmer murdered her three husbands and numerous slaves who worked the surrounding plantation, before she in turn was murdered, in 1831, by one of her lovers – a cunning slave who decided to exact revenge on her. MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA Leaving Montego Bay we head towards Reading, passing rural villages such as Anchovy, Ramble and Whithorn. We will have a great view of one of the island’s breathtaking lush plains – George’s Plain, a large expanse of flatland that can be seen for many miles around SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC An approximate 10 minute journey will take us to the majestic Columbus lighthouse, Faro a Colon, the last burial of the Great Admiral Christopher Columbus and one of the most impressive commemorative lighthouses in the entire world SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC The Botanical Garden of Santo Domingo covers approximately two million square metres (21.5 million feet), and is the largest in the Caribbean. It exhibits the natural flora of the island, and there are areas dedicated to palm trees, exotic plants and orchids SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Departing from the quayside, we will pass by many of the important sites of Santo Domingo, the first capital of the New World, which was founded at the beginning of the 16th century SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC we will travel to the fishermen’s village of Bayahibe, where rapid boomerang boats are waiting to take us to the most beautiful natural swimming pool of the Southern Caribbean area. Here crystal shallow waters invite us to take a swim during our short stop SANTIAGO DE CUBA, CUBA Like its sister club in Havana, Tropicana Santiago performed under the stars epitomises Santiago’s way of life: open and carefree. The brilliantly colourful show, with live music, borrows liberally from the Afro-Caribbean roots of the local culture SANTIAGO DE CUBA, CUBA On this sightseeing tour we shall pass by Moncada Barracks, where Fidel Castro’s first military action against the dictator Batista took place. We’ll also see San Juan Park and Revolution Square, with its huge statue of the 19th-century revolutionary hero, Antonio Maceo, SANTIAGO DE CUBA, CUBA Our destination today is the lovely, white sandy Playa Casonal (Casonal Beach) and the Hotel Carisol in Los Corales, located in the beautiful Baconao National Park. SANTIAGO DE CUBA, CUBA As we take the winding road out of Santiago to La Gran Piedra, one of the Sierra Maestra peaks, we will be able to admire wonderful views of the coast and surrounding countryside. La Gran Piedra is really a big mountain with a huge rock on the top but is nevertheless quite spectacular. PHILIPSBURG, ST MAARTEN Departing from the marina, we will cruise the Simpson Bay Lagoon passing the luxury villas of Sandy ground while our onboard entertainer sings some light calypso songs to create the island ambience as we view the mega yachts which visit the many marinas situated in the calm waters of the lagoon FUNCHAL, MADEIRA Leaving our ship behind us we will begin our drive towards Câmara de Lobos, a small fishing village on the south coast where we will make our first short photo stop to take a lookout from the viewpoint. FUNCHAL, MADEIRA This tour will allow us to discover the natural beauty of the island. We begin from Vale Paraiso, where we will walk along the Levada – a traditional man-made irrigation system ideal for walkers. FUNCHAL, MADEIRA Departing from the pier, we take a brief sightseeing tour of the city of Funchal by coach. Stopping at the old town, we then take a 15 minute cable car ride up to Monte. Here we will walk to a small square and the church. We will stop in Céspedes Park, the heart of the city, where Santiago’s beautiful Cathedral overlooks the square MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA Venture to one of the most picturesque places in Jamaica, the “Land of Wood and Water”, for a unique Jamaican experience. After her major refit and lengthening procedure, Braemar will feature over eighty passenger cabins and suites with balconies.
