We depart the pier for a drive to the Belem area of Lisbon. Here we shall see the Presidential Palace, the Monastery of Jeronimos, one of the most prominent monasteries in Portugal, and the Tower of Belem, built to commemorate explorer Vasco da Gama’s expedition. We shall also view the Monument to the Discoveries, which was unveiled as part of the 500-year anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator. -

Our tour begins with a drive through the centre of Lisbon, a lively, modern capital with many historic buildings, squares and picturesque quarters. Rossio is the main square in Lisbon, and the mile-long Avenue of Liberty leads to the statue of the Marquis of Pombal, who rebuilt the city after the disastrous earthquake of 1755. We then travel outside the city to the site of the EXPO 98 World Exhibition to visit the main attraction here, the spectacular Oceanarium.
