Originally called Birgu, the name of Vittoriosa was given as a result of its victorious stand in the Great Siege of 1565. Here we shall see the Presidential Palace, the Monastery of Jeronimos, one of the most prominent monasteries in Portugal, and the Tower of Belem, built to commemorate explorer Vasco da Gama’s expedition. We shall also view the Monument to the Discoveries, which was unveiled as part of the 500-year anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator.
