Few people are aware that Gibraltar is one of the best places in the world to view cetaceans all year round. The local waters are home to three species of dolphin – the Striped, Bottle-nosed and Common dolphins – along with seven species of whale, flying fish, turtles and sunfish.
MALAGA, SPAIN
Malaga is the capital city of the Costa del Sol. Founded by the Phoenicians as a colony approximately 3,000 years ago, it has come under the rule of the Romans, Carthaginians and the Moors. With approximately 670,000 inhabitants, the city lives a ‘Janus-faced’ life as both a busy port and industrial centre for southern Spain.
EL FERROL, SPAIN
Departing the quayside, we can enjoy a panoramic tour of Ferrol before continuing to Betanzos. The Roman town (Brigantium Flavium) emerged from old castors and gave birth to the present Betanzos. King Alfonso IX granted it the same law-code as La Coruña, and so a new era of prosperity began.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
This tour allows us to explore the architectural legacy of one of Barcelona’s most famous sons, Antonio Gaudí. His buildings form a most startling statement of Modernism, a Spanish and mainly Catalan offshoot of the Art Nouveau monument.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
With a capacity of 98,787, the Nou Camp Stadium is the largest football stadium in Europe. It is the home ground of FC Barcelona and is one of the biggest and most atmospheric stadiums in the world. BARCELONA, SPAIN
This excursion is perfect for those of us who would like to visit the city of Barcelona, but are worried about the amount of walking involved in Tour A. We can relax on the comfort of our coach as our guide introduces us to the city’s main attractions.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
The rugged Montserrat mountain range is one of Spain’s most picturesque areas. Like jagged teeth, the mysterious peaks soar skywards. They have inspired many legends and motivated Wagner to write some of his most beautiful arias.
BARCELONA, SPAIN
Barcelona is a large city that has grown since the end of the Spanish War and the beginning of the modernisation of Spain, and it is now a cosmopolitan city. The old Barcelona, the Gothic Quarter, where the original Roman and medieval city was located, remains comparatively undisturbed, and we will see both aspects of the city on our tour.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
Our tour begins with a panoramic drive of Lisbon city centre. We shall make a brief stop at the top of King Edward VII Park, from where we can enjoy a spectacular view of the city and harbour. We then continue, passing by Pombal Square, the famous avenue of Liberty and, of course, Rossio – the very heart and meeting point of Lisbon.
GIBRALTAR
The Rock of Gibraltar, nearly 4,590 metres (1,400 feet) above sea level, is reputed to be one of the legendary Pillars of Hercules. With its policemen, pubs and pillar-boxes, the Rock is still staunchly British, overlooking the entrance to the Mediterranean.
MALAGA, SPAIN
Departing the quayside, we drive towards Mijas, passing pine-clad hills en route to this picturesque village in the foothills of the sierra.
MALAGA, SPAIN
Departing Malaga, our coach will follow the coastline to Marbella, the most cosmopolitan of the Costa del Sol’s resorts and, certainly, the choice of the rich and famous.
MALAGA, SPAIN
Granada was at its peak during the 11th century, when for a while it became the capital of a small kingdom. Our journey to this beautiful city, which is rich in history, lying at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and on the edge of fertile ‘Vega de Granada’ – the greenest and best stretch of farmland in Andalucia – will take approximately two hours.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
A hilly city with cobblestones, Lisbon’s sights are best enjoyed from the comfort of a coach. This tour takes in many famous city sights. We can enjoy the magnificent view of the city and harbour from Alto do Parque Belvedere. Rossio Square is the Picadilly Circus of Lisbon, and here the mile-long Avenida da Liberdade leads to the statue of Pombol, who rebuilt the city following the devastating earthquake of 1755.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
Leaving Lisbon through Monsanto Park, we arrive at Sintra, a popular old world village resort nestling in tree-clad hills north of Lisbon. The town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its 19th century Romantic architecture.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
Following a scenic 75-minute drive through the beautiful Portuguese countryside, we will arrive at the medieval town of Obidos, for a unique experience to travel back in time. The origins of this quaint little castle town, rising majestically above the lovely Gaeiras vineyards, are obscured in history, but may date back as far as 308 BC.
LISBON, PORTUGAL
We depart the pier for a drive to the Belem area of Lisbon. Here we shall see the Presidential Palace, the Monastery of Jeronimos, one of the most prominent monasteries in Portugal, and the Tower of Belem, built to commemorate explorer Vasco da Gama’s expedition. EL FERROL, SPAIN
During the Middle Ages, there were three main places of pilgrimage for Christianity: Rome, Jerusalem and Santiago de Compostela. A visit to the shrine of St James (Santiago), Patron Saint of Spain, entitles us to wear the cockleshell emblem in the company of perhaps half a million pilgrims a year.
