Driving in a south westerly direction from Cagliari, our coach will pass St Gill’s Lagoon – where, if we are lucky, we may see pink flamingos. Our route continues amongst olive groves and we will spot, in the distance, one of the biggest refineries in the Mediterranean, belonging to the township of Sarroch.

We start this tour with a panoramic drive so we can get a general overview of Lisbon City centre.We will make a brief stop at the top of King Edward VII Park from where we can enjoy a spectacular view of the city and harbour.

Travelling to the southern part of the island, our first visit is to Qrendi, where we find the Hagar Qim Temples, likened to Stonehenge and originally built about 2700 BC. The site of these temples – high above the sea – was chosen well.

To embark the boat for this excursion we will travel to Silema. Onboard we will witness Malta’s living past from the water as we ply around the two natural harbours on either side of Valletta – Marsamxett Harbour and the Grand Harbour.

Our coach will depart from the harbour and will make our way to Mosta (meaning centre), which refers to its very location at the heart of the island. Here we will stop to see the famous dome, considered to be the third largest in Europe.

As we leave our ship we will enjoy a scenic tour of Cagliari. Travelling along the main streets of the town, we reach the Basilica of Bonaria, which stands against the old church in Aragonese-Gothic style; from here we can admire a complete view over the Gulf of Cagliari.

This tour starts from the ship’s landing stage, from where tenders will transfer us to Athenios port (approximately 15 minutes). We then proceed by coach to enjoy a scenic ascent via the colourful rocky sides of the Caldera (Crater), affording a spectacular panorama of the island.

We leave the quayside by coach for a panoramic drive around the bastions of Valletta that house most of Malta’s rich heritage of history, art, archaeology, architecture and culture. We will also pass by Fort St Elmo, the historic fort at the tip of the Valletta peninsula.

We travel onto Marsaxlokk, one of Malta’s largest fishing villages. Where we shall have some free time to explore this picturesque village, before we rejoin our coach to drive through some typical tiny Maltese villages, on our way to the Blue Grotto at Wied iz-Zurrieq.
