During this tour we will experience distinctive sub-arctic nature, bird life, historic sights, abandoned fishing communities, a lighthouse and, with luck, possibly even a majestic white-tailed eagle.

The king crab is one of the largest crabs, weighing five kilograms (eleven pounds) or more. Its size and tasty flesh make it a valued food, and large numbers are commercially fished each year.

Briefly stopping en route to admire a picturesque, ‘dragon style’ wooden church at Buksnes, our tour continues on to the charming village of Ballstad.

We proceed to the idyllic fishing village of Nusfjord – protected by UNESCO – where we can study the architecture of the colourful fishermen’s dwellings.

Back on Vestvågøy we drive through Leknes – the administrative centre of the island – stopping to look around the Vestvågøy Museum.

Our tour today gives us the chance to see the stunning landscape as well as learning about the history of the Islands.

We shall park close to the glacier, which means a fantastic view and great possibilities for photographs. The massive blue ice is viewed from across a small glacier lake.

We will travel through the Jotunheimen National Park with its dramatic alpine peaks, glaciers and waterfalls.

We travel along the Romantic Road to the Urnes Stave Church, which is Norway’s oldest stave church and is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

We shall visit Byrkjedalstunet - a cheese factory from 1920 - and the nearby Gloppedalsuren -  Norway's largest boulder field - before a drive back to the centre of Stavanger, passing the main attractions of the city.

After walking along the pier, we board a boat, which will take us on a tour of the Stavanger archipelago and the splendid Lysefjord. Lysefjord, which cuts almost 50 kilometres (31 miles) deep into the country, is surrounded by steep mountainsides and polished by glaciers and waterfalls.

We shall start by walking with our guide through the centre of Stavanger and the inner part of the harbour with the old, picturesque wooden houses along it and the market where the locals (and tourists) come to buy fruit, vegetables, flowers and seafood.
