      Proceeding over the Tromsø Bridge, which connects Troms Island with the mainland, we visit the Tromsdalen Church, otherwise known as the Arctic Cathedral, lying on the opposite side. This unusual landmark is shaped like a typical boathouse.

      First a photo stop will be made at the Palace of Culture, also known as Kirov’s Palace, site of the city’s founding. We proceed to the Monument to the Defenders of the Kola Land, ‘Alyosha’ – a large statue of a lone soldier on the outskirts of Murmansk, overlooking the city.

      Now we will travel approximately 20 minutes to reach Murmansk Oceanarium. This is the only aqua complex in Europe where Arctic seals are trained and studied. As well as being the focus of extensive scientific research, the seals are an important part of rehabilitation therapy for children.

      Returning to the centre of the city, we shall briefly stop at the Allied Cemetery, where those who perished in World War II are buried. We will see Lenin Prospekt, the main thoroughfare of Murmansk, the Monument to the Sister Towns, the Monument to the Anti-Hitler Coalition (a human palm holding a globe) and Sport’s Square.

      The king crab is one of the largest crabs, weighing five kilograms (eleven pounds) or more. Its size and tasty flesh make it a valued food, and large numbers are commercially fished each year.

      Today we will drive along the fjord of Luster and make a short stop to see the beautiful Feigumfossen Waterfall. Continuing, we travel along the Romantic Road to the Urnes Stave Church, which is Norway’s oldest stave church and is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

      After a short crossing of the glacier lake, in a small open boat, the massive blue ice is then only a hike away. Up by the glacier we can take our time to enjoy this exceptionally breathtaking scenery.

      Lysefjord, which cuts almost 50 kilometres (31 miles) deep into the country, is surrounded by steep mountainsides and polished by glaciers and waterfalls.

      Passing through old and new sections of Stavanger, we arrive at the Cathedral. It was built around 1125 by Bishop Reinald of Winchester with the aid of some British craftsmen. St Swithin is the patron saint. Of all the Norwegian churches built during the Middle Ages, Stavanger Cathedral is the only one that has retained its original features.
