From St Kitts it is an approximate 35-45 minute ride by sea taxi along the coastline of the southeastern peninsula, to the Sister Island of Nevis – known as the ‘Queen of the Caribbean’.

Here we will be able to see the classic Victorian architecture as well as many other elements of French and British colonisation, which have been carefully preserved including the Berkeley Memorial, Independence Square, St George’s Anglican Church and the impressive Catholic Co-Cathedral.

Shortly after leaving Bridgetown Harbour, we pass by Pelican Village – a small arts and crafts centre which houses a number of shops offering locally made gifts and souvenirs. Next we drive along Broad Street, the main shopping area of Bridgetown, followed by Heroes Square (formerly Trafalgar Square).

Our journey will begin as we head north along the West Coast, also known as the Platinum Coast. Departing from the pier we will head north towards the parish of St. James, passing through Holetown with its monument commemorating the first British landing in 1605. The drive will continue to Highland Adventure Centre, at an elevation of more than 1000 feet above sea level. Founded in the early 18th century by the French, St George’s still possesses something of the character of a French town, particularly in the red-tiled roofs and pastel colours of its traditional architecture. Departing from the quayside, we shall be driven to the Antigua Recreation Ground – home of the four existing cricket world records – for a guided tour of the ground. Known locally as the ARG, the ground became cricket’s 52nd Test Venue in 1980/1 when it hosted England in a test match marked by a century from the island’s most famous sporting son, Sir Vivian Richards. Despite the relatively small size of Antigua, with just a population of approximately 70,000, crowds at the ARG are both extremely knowledgeable and fanatical in their passion for the most famous of the Caribbean sports!ST JOHNS, ANTIGUA
