Shortly after leaving Bridgetown Harbour, we pass by Pelican Village – a small arts and crafts centre which houses a number of shops offering locally made gifts and souvenirs. Next we drive along Broad Street, the main shopping area of Bridgetown, followed by Heroes Square (formerly Trafalgar Square).

Our journey will begin as we head north along the West Coast, also known as the Platinum Coast. It is not only home to Holetown, the site where the first settlers landed in 1627, but is also home to the rich and famous. -
Scenic Barbados and Beach Escape

Departing from the pier we will head north towards the parish of St. James, passing through Holetown with its monument commemorating the first British landing in 1605. The drive will continue to Highland Adventure Centre, at an elevation of more than 1000 feet above sea level. Here we will enjoy a refreshing drink whilst taking in the breathtaking view of the East Coast. -
Farewell Barbados

Departing the quayside by coach we will be invited to sit back, relax and enjoy our last day of our holiday. The Farewell Barbados Tour enables us to take in some of Barbados’ highlights before being transported to the airport. -

Flanking the square are the Government Palace, where Francisco Pizarro took up residence in 1538. The Cathedral, which houses Pizarro’s remains and where we will visit the on-site museum; the Archbishop’s Palace, with its beautiful balconies; and the Town Hall.

Larco Herrera and Indian Market

Founded in 1926, in a renovated 1707 mansion, the Larco Herrera Museum contains the biggest private collection of pre-Columbian art that exists in the world and consists of about 45,000 pieces, mainly pottery, that were excavated by Peruvian archaeologist Rafael Larco Hoyle.

The Best of the Northern Cultures of Peru

Trujillo is one of the most beautiful cities in Peru, founded in 1534 by Peru’s conquistador Francisco Pizarro, who names it after his birthplace in Spain. This colonial and republican city, 560 kilometres (350 miles) north of Lima, flourished when numerous families of nobles settled here to exploit the gold and silver mines, and the large sugar plantations. Trujillo, with its year-round spring-like climate, is full of traditional and aristocratic mansions.

The brightly painted ‘Chivas’ bus is the most important means of transportation used by the local people of Manta. They criss-cross the country, offering reasonably priced transportation between the towns, along the coast, and through the interior sections of Ecuador. Many people will recognise the buses due to the small ceramic models sold in the many craft stores – each model is typically depicted as being brimming over with produce, including suitcases and the odd basket of chickens tied to the top.

The Rhum Runner

A short walk from the port gate, the Rhum Runner waits at the jetty. To the sound of a steel band we are greeted by a smiling crew waiting to serve us with ice-cold rum punches. Once onboard we loop around the Carenage, St George’s inner harbour, before proceeding along the scenic coastline, hugging the shore. We shall stop at Morne Rouge Beach. -
Island Drive - East Coast

From the pier, we drive through the quaint capital of St George’s, perhaps the most appealing city in the entire Caribbean. Founded in the early 18th century by the French, St George’s still possesses something of the character of a French town, particularly in the red-tiled roofs and pastel colours of its traditional architecture. We pass the ruins of Government House through St Paul’s, then travel to the parish of St David’s, where plantations of cocoa and spices can be seen. -

Departing the quayside in our jeeps (typically ex-British military issue Land Rovers) we shall travel through the parish of St George and continue along the scenic East Coast, through the islands centre to two of the island’s natural wonders.

Departing the quayside, we take a short drive in the direction of La Laguna in order to join the road to the Esperenza Forest, with its cool eucalyptus vegetation and tantalising glimpses of Mount Teide. From Santa Cruz, we will take a short drive in the direction of La Laguna in order to join the road to the Esperenza Forest. As we travel through the pine tree vegetation of the forest, we will catch tantalising glimpses of Mount Teide.

Departing the harbour of Santa Cruz, we pass by the university town of La Laguna and cross one of the finest wine-growing areas on the island to reach Tacoronte and then El Sauzal on the western coast.

Departing the quayside, we drive by La Laguna, the second most important town of Tenerife, located in the centre of the Agurre Valley and just a few kilometres from the capital. As we continue westwards, we pass Tacoronte, one of the best growing areas on the island.

By coach we will travel to the boarding place of the Seaworld Explorer – a state-of-the-art semi-submarine originally developed for use on the Great Barrier Reef. The vessel does not submerge, but we descend into the hull of this cruising underwater observatory, one-and-a-half metres (five feet) below the surface of the water, to watch sealife through the clear glass windows.
