St John, New Brunswick

St John, New Brunswick

Situated where the Saint John River joins the Bay of Fundy - separating Nova Scotia and New Brunswick - Saint John is the latter's largest city, born as a French trading post in 1645.

The arrival of displaced Empire Loyalists at the end of the American War of Independence in 1783 left an indelible mark on Saint John's fortunes and today's restored harbour district reveals many insights into a fascinating heritage. An exciting twice-daily event is the phenomenon of the river's spectacular tidal bore at famous Reversing Falls Rapids.
