Trapani, Italy

Trapani, Italy

Introduction to Trapani, Italy

Located on the western coast of Sicily, Trapani is a fishing and ferry port with a long history.

Trapani is a beautiful Sicilian city renowned for its Baroque style architecture, important fishing port and links to the nearby Egadi Islands. In the centre of the city, you will find a good range of shops and restaurants to enjoy, an impressive harbour and historic buildings to admire.

Trapani’s highlights include The Dovecote – the city’s offshore medieval fortress and the Cattedrale di San Lorenzo – the town’s restored cathedral that dates back to the fourteenth century. There are also several beautiful boulevards to walk around and enjoy, including Mura di Tramontana – arguably the prettiest of them all. This boulevard offers great views of the bay and is only a short distance from the city centre.

Venturing further from the city centre, why not head for the medieval town of Erice - located 2,464 feet above sea level at the top of Erice Mountain. The town is easy to reach via cable car direct from Trapani and is worth making the journey for the views and experience alone. Here you will also find some charming shops and historic buildings dating back many centuries.
