The Baltic Sea spa resort of Jurmala is approximately 20 kilometres from the Latvian capital. It is a town with a 32 kilometre long sandy beach and a wonderful architectural heritage. Historically, Jurmala has always been a popular seaside resort in the Baltics due to its natural features - pleasant climate, mineral water springs and healing mud. The first resort was founded in the mid 19th century and since then Jurmala has become a popular destination for locals and tourists.

During your tour you will have the chance to see one of the main features of Jurmala – the wooden architecture from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The charming wooden summer cottages sit in harmony with the more recent summerhouses and spa centres. After a drive through the streets you will have a walk along the white, sandy beach and continue on to Jomas Street, which is the main pedestrian street and has plenty of cafés and souvenir shops. On the way back to your ship you will see the main highlights of Riga from your coach and enjoy a short photo stop at the Town Hall Square.

Discover Riga – once one of the most important Hanseatic cities and, until 1856, fortification walls and earthen ramparts surrounded it. Since then there has been much change, although many buildings have been preserved and renovated in the Old Town, which you will visit on this tour.

During a drive around Riga, you will see some of the beautiful architecture of the city. There is a wealth of superb Art Nouveau designs of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The outstanding Freedom Monument was erected in 1935 to symbolise the struggle of the Latvian people for independence. Next, you will embark on a walking tour of Old Riga, to become acquainted with its most famous monuments (outside views only). These include 14th century Riga Castle - three medieval dwelling houses, St Jacob’s Church with its ‘Bell of Wretched Sinners’, St Peter’s Church, St George’s Church and St John’s Church.

You will also see the heart of Old Riga, Dome Square, and visit the Dome Cathedral. Its present appearance, like many of the city’s buildings, is a composite of numerous architectural styles applied through the centuries. Learn more about the Dome Cathedral’s organ, which comprises over 6,000 pipes, and be treated to a short organ recital. After a short walk you have a little free time at leisure at Town Hall Square with the Blackhead's House - the merchant's guild house - and small souvenir market.
