Nestled in the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountains, San Sebastian’s remote location and historic appeal have made it one of Mexico’s great villages.

Enjoy a panoramic coach journey, passing fantastic scenery and typical scenes of rural Mexican life en route – a truly breathtaking and relaxing journey. Upon arrival in the mountain village of San Sebastian, spend time wandering around the area, which reached its peak in the 1700’s, and discover more about its colonial heritage.

With a quaint cobblestone plaza lined by dignified white buildings, a classic Porfirian bandstand, an 18th century church dedicated to San Sebastian and many old world haciendas, this village is truly a living museum untouched by time.

A traditional lunch will be served in town prior to your return to Puerto Vallarta.

TOUR NOTES: This tour will involve a moderate amount of walking over cobblestone and uneven terrain, there will also be steps to negotiate throughout. Lunch will be a set menu and will include a bottle of water; additional refreshments can be purchased from the bar. We suggest you wear comfortable lightweight clothing, sensible walking shoes and adequate sun protection. For your reference, your journey time to San Sebastian will take approximately 85 minutes each way.

Travel off the beaten path and explore the real Mexico. Discover the wealth of natural resources and raw breathtaking scenery as you travel by 4x4 jeeps into the remote, traditional villages of the Mexican outback to discover the ecosystem and wildlife of the mountains and jungles of the Sierra Madre.

Escaping the suburbs of Puerto Vallarta in your specially designed 4x4 jeeps, you begin your voyage of discovery over chassis challenging terrain, through mountain streams and past long forgotten settlements on a mission to reach the heart of the Sierra Madre.

Stop to visit a local Mexican home, where you will savour freshly prepared corn tortillas, beans and salsa hand made on the spot by the resident matriarch. Discover how the typical Mexican families live sustainably, growing and preparing their own foods as they have done for centuries.

You will then venture deeper into the forest vegetation, where you eco-guides take you on an approximate 45 minute nature hike to uncover the wonderful flora and fauna tucked away under the canopy of the jungle. Your concluding stop will be at the iconic Mexican surfer and artisan village of Sayulita for a late lunch at a beachside venue. Time at leisure here will allow you to take a stroll, watch the surfers or head into the village to find the perfect treasure to take home.

TOUR NOTES: This tour will utilise 4x4 Unimog jeeps which can accommodate up to 12 guests. Guests are asked to remain seated throughout their journey. You will be traversing off-road terrain so please be prepared to be bumped around. Due to the bumpy nature of this tour, we do not recommend this tour to guests who suffer from neck or back injuries or pregnant ladies. Please come wearing clothes that you do not mind getting dusty. Lunch will include an open bar of water, soda and local beer. What flora or fauna might be seen during your nature hike cannot be guaranteed.

Spend time learning about the physiology and behaviour of the Sea Lions with a trainer before you enter the sea lion pool, for the most exciting part of your tour, an opportunity to play, pet, shake a flipper or two and possibly receive a big fishy kiss from these playful and fun marine mammals!

TOUR NOTES: Please note you will spend approximately 25 minutes on a waist deep platform in the water. Come wearing your swimsuit under casual clothes and do not forget your towel. Cameras are not permitted within the water, however a professional photographer will be on hand to capture this unique memory on film and will be available to purchase after your encounter. Guests must be at least 4 foot 5 inches to take part and children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult in the water. Unfortunately this tour is not considered suitable for pregnant ladies. Jewellery should not be worn in the water. A buffet lunch with water or iced tea is included. Additional drinks can be purchased from the bar. Please be note that sea lions are wild animals.

Your adventure begins with a safety briefing and a short lecture on these wonderful creatures. Once out on the water, your guide will highlight typical humpback whale behaviour. Be sure to keep watch for whales breaching, slapping their tails, travelling, playing or fighting. Throughout your search you will be invited to listen out for the whales’ intriguing songs in hope of a truly close encounter!
