Ibiza, Spain

Introduction to Ibiza, Spain

Join a Mediterranean cruise and experience the charming Spanish Island of Ibiza.

Although it has a reputation as the clubbing capital of Europe, the island – especially the town itself – is really beautiful.

The island’s capital – Eivissa in Catalan – has a superb Old Town, with 16th century walls surrounding tightly packed cobbled streets. The main entrance is the Portal de Tablas, which passes into a courtyard leading to the main square. Take any of the streets off the square and find wonderful restaurants, tiny boutiques and family-owned cafés and bars.

TOUR A - SOUTHERN IBIZA SIGHTSEEING

We begin our cruise tour with a short drive to El Soto, which is at the top of the antique centre, Dalt Vila. We will also pay a visit to Ibiza's fascinating salt flats, the mountain village of San Jose and the fishing port of San Antonio.

Price£35.00 - £45.00
DurationApprox. 4 hours

At El Soto, the first stop on our cruise tour, we will visit the historical Santa Maria de Las Nieves Cathedral, built in 1782. Steeped in history, the cathedral houses a museum where we are able to view interesting exhibitions depicting the catholic history of Christianity.

After our visit here, we will continue our cruise tour with a drive to Las Salinas, Ibiza’s famous salt flats, which are located in one of the most unspoilt areas in the city. The area was originally a large lake, but has since been divided into 40 pools. Salt is one of the oldest industries on the island. During their occupation, the Romans realised the importance of this commodity and developed a commercial business in it, shipping much of it back to Rome. Today more than 100,000 tonnes of salt is produced here each year. Once the salt is extracted from the pans, it is loaded onto a train (the only one on the island) to be transported all over the world.

Next we proceed to San Jose. This small mountain village boasts an attractive 18th century church, located in picturesque surroundings. Following a visit to the church, we shall have some free time to explore the village, which is noted for its handicrafts.

Following our visit, we travel to San Antonio. Once a quiet fishing village, San Antonio is now a lively, bustling port. We shall have some time to browse at leisure, before re-boarding our tour coach for the return journey to our awaiting cruise ship.
