Introduction to Cruising by Farne Islands, UK
Described as ‘a sanctuary for seabirds and seals’, the beautiful Farne Islands are Sir David Attenborough’s favourite place in the UK to see nature at its best.
Situated a couple of miles off the coast of Northumberland, the Farne Islands are home to approximately 23 different species of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, razorbills and swooping Arctic terns, as well as a large colony of grey seals. The islands are a haven for nature lovers such as Sir David Attenborough, who declared them as his favourite place in the UK to see nature at its best. The Farne Islands were also one of the first designated sites of special scientific interest in 1951.
Be sure to have your binoculars to hand as you sail steadily by to watch the wonderful wildlife thrive in their natural habitat and spot the islands’ historic lighthouses.
