Introduction to Charlestown, Nevis
Beautiful Charlestown - the largest town on Nevis - is one of the Caribbean's most undervalued destinations.
This island of Nevis has the distinct laid back attitude of the Caribbean, beautiful golden sand beaches, palm trees, pristine reefs, trade winds, forest, hills and is rich in history and culture.
Charlestown - the island's largest town - is the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton - one of the United States founding fathers - whose family home has been rebuilt and turned into a museum. The original house, plus many of the other 18th century all-stone houses, was destroyed in 1840 during an earthquake. This led to the construction of the part stone, part wood houses and buildings that line the streets today.
Away from the town there are plenty of beaches to enjoy, with soft sand and invitingly clear waters. The population of Charlestown is very small, so the beaches are always quiet and are perfect for a day relaxing in the Caribbean sunshine.
