Brevik, Norway

Introduction to Brevik, Norway

Brevik is regarded as one of the best-preserved towns from the sailing ship era.

Regarded as one of the country’s best preserved towns, Brevik is a cherished, friendly town located within the Eidanger peninsula. Its traditional terracotta roofed houses and maritime inspired architecture is a tribute to Norway’s history, an exhibition of the country’s past.

The town has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and is very tranquil, so it’s perfect for a relaxing stroll. The narrow streets are lined with buildings built in the 1700’s, 1800’s and beyond. You can’t help but admire the attention to detail and beautiful architecture. The high street is well worth visiting in particular. Here you will discover several buildings that feature ‘Brevik Panels’ - a type of cladding unique to the town that was used here from around 1830 - and the town museum and town hall, which is a fine example of 1700's Norwegian architecture.

The perfect place to take a break from exploring, the sparkling waterfront district is well worth a look too. With plenty of places to eat and have a drink, you can sit here, relax and soak up the unique landscapes that surround the town in peace.
