Bartin, Turkey

Introduction to Bartin, Turkey

The historic city of Bartin is located just 14 Kilometres from northern Turkey's beautiful Black Sea coast. Dating back to 1200BC, the city has been occupied by a number of civilisations and historic sites from the Persian, Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras are found both in plain view and hidden away.

The historic city of Bartin dates back to 1200BC and has been influenced by the control of many different civilisations over the years, including the Hittites, Kiringens, Lydians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. Awash with charming wooden houses and historic sites, the city is a joy to explore, especially in the hot and sunny summer months. Be sure to stop by at the ancient castle to admire the architecture, visit the pretty churches and explore the Inziva Cave.

On the banks of the beautiful Bartin River, which meanders its way through the city centre, there are many excellent beaches to discover and fine scenery to enjoy. Relaxing on the beach is perfect for winding down after a few hours spent exploring the city, while a river boat trip is a great way to take in the fine surroundings and spot pretty areas of the city that you may have missed on foot.
