Antalya is also known as the Turkish Riviera due to the archaeological and natural riches in the area. The sun, sea, nature and history all combine to form a popular resort, highlighted by some of the cleanest beaches in the Mediterranean. Set against the dramatic background of the Taurus Mountains, with its palm-lined boulevard, internationally acclaimed marina and old castle with traditional architecture, Antalya is a major tourist spot in Turkey.

Departing the quayside, your tour begins in the old city. The ancient city of Antalya was protected by two walls, with one enclosing it along the shore and the other inland, almost like a horseshoe. The ancient centre – the heart of Antalya - characterised by narrow streets and typical old houses, is known as the Kaleici (Inner Bailey).

Located in the Kalekapisi neighbourhood, where a number of Seljuk buildings can be found, is the Yivli (fluted) Minaret, which has become the symbol of Antalya. Dating back to the 13th century, the minaret has eight grooves on its trunk and is made from bricks and dark blue and turquoise tiles.

At the end of your city tour, you drive to Düden Waterfalls, which are situated around 12 kilometres north-east of Antalya. Formed by the Düden River, the lower falls drop off a rocky cliff directly into the Mediterranean Sea. Many visitors here fail to notice how these falls emerge from the deep section of the water by making a syphon by pressure, and are part of an exciting and hydrogeologic system. You will have some brief time here to explore independently.

Following your visit, you travel to the city centre, where you will have approximately one hour to browse the shops independently, prior to your return to the quayside.

Discover some of the most important sites in Turkey – the immense theatre at Aspendos, the ancient city of Perge and the classic Side.

Departing the quayside, you drive along the scenic coastal road towards the ancient city of Perge. Originally a Hellenistic settlement, Perge was invaded by Alexander the Great and later developed into a thriving Roman city. Most of the surviving ruins here date from the Roman period. With the end of the Seljuk rule, which followed soon after the Romans, Perge was soon abandoned. During your visit here, you will be able to view the impressive Great Theatre and Stadium, the unusual Hellenistic Roman gate towers, the acropolis, agora, public baths and Palaestra (gymnasium).

Continuing, you travel to Aspendos, where you will visit the theatre, the best preserved in Turkey. Built in the 2nd century BC, the theatre had a capacity of 15,000 people and is one of three ancient theatres in the world with the best acoustics (they are so good here that performances are held here without the need for amplifiers or microphones). You can test these acoustics during your visit!

Next you proceed to Side, en route stopping to enjoy a Turkish buffet lunch. Feeling refreshed, you continue with your visit of Side, one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey. Once an ancient harbour, Side is now a pretty resort town, popular for its ancient ruins, two sandy beaches and shops. You will visit the Apollo Temple, situated near the sea, the agora, a fountain and necropolis. You can then enjoy some free time in which to explore independently, browse the shops or relax in a nearby café.
