Calling first into Flåm, begin your foray into the fjords with a relaxing ride on the Flåmsbana Railway – one of the world’s steepest and most spectacular train journeys – which winds through soaring mountain ranges and past cascading waterfalls such as 225 metre-high Kjosfossen. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not climb to the Stegastein Viewpoint for astonishing views of Aurlandsfjord’s outstanding scenery; or go kayaking at the remarkable, UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. Stepping ashore in Olden next, you could embark on an exhilarating trek through the Briksdalen Valley in search of the beautiful Briksdal Glacier. Alternatively enjoy a wander around the charming village to see the 18th century church and the Singerheimen – the former home of William Singer.
A cruise along the Nordfjord – one of Norway’s longest and most picturesque fjords – and a gentle glide by the imposing Hornelen sea cliff follows before Boudicca docks in Bergen, your final Norwegian call. Be sure to wander around the charming, UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf and admire the colourful wooden structures; and see several of Edvard Munch’s works at the fantastic Bergen Art Museum. A ride on the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen offers superb views. Before returning to Liverpool you will also call into the Scottish port of Scrabster, for trips to Thurso and the historic Castle of Mey.
