Sailing to the Caribbean
Black Watch • W1826 • Prices from £1,299.00 (cruise only)
Escape the onset of another chilly British winter and head to the idyllic, paradise islands of the Caribbean aboard Black Watch for the chance to unwind with soothing sunshine and discover a diverse array of invigorating and exhilarating experiences.
Following two days at sea to settle into life on board Black Watch, the gorgeous floral blooms, architectural delights and natural wonders of two picturesque Portuguese ports of call will whet your appetite for Caribbean island discovery. First on the horizon is vibrant Lisbon, Portugal’s capital. With a day to explore the captivating streets; visit fascinating museums and landmarks such as the Bélem Tower, Jerónimos Monastery and São Jorge Castle; and stop-by the charming art-nouveau cafés, you’ll discover why Lisbon was named one of Lonely Planet’s Top 10 cities of 2017. Then it’s on to the beautiful ‘garden island’, Madeira. You could explore the unique levada walking trails; take in the bright colours and sweet scents of beautiful botanical gardens; or even indulge with a delectable afternoon tea at Funchal's Reid’s Hotel. For a memorable experience, enjoy the unspoilt ocean views from the magnificent Cabo Girão sea cliff. Whatever you choose to do, you’ll feel suitably enriched when you finally set sail for the sun-kissed Caribbean.
After sailing across the Atlantic you’ll stop-off in St John’s, Antigua. To absorb the local culture and delve into the island’s fascinating history, St John’s bustling Public Market and the historic sites of the English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard are well worth visiting. For something more adventurous you could go swimming with stingrays; explore the west coast on a thrilling speedboat tour; and divert off the ‘beaten track’ on a 4x4 jeep safari. If you prefer to relax and simply soak up the sunshine, take your pick of 365 inviting beaches. A day on Dominica – one of Lonely Planet’s Top 10 countries to discover in 2017 – will offer you the chance to explore exotic interior of the UNESCO-listed Morne Trois Pitons National Park and enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool waters of the Emerald Pool. There are plenty of other attractions and experiences to discover too: perhaps embark on a whale and dolphins watching safari, or marvel at fabulous flora in stunning botanical gardens – the choice is yours. Finally, enjoy one last night on Black Watch before disembarking in Bridgetown, Barbados.
