Islands of the Canaries
Boudicca • D1803B • Prices from £699.00 (cruise only)
The first of three beautiful Canary Islands on your itinerary is Tenerife. After arriving in Santa Cruz and settling in on board Boudicca, you’ll have time to explore the island before you set sail. Among a number of attractions to include on your ‘must-visit’ list are the mysterious Pyramids of Güímar and the secret gardens, exhibiting some of world’s most dangerous poison plants; and Las Cañadas del Teide National Park. Here you’ll uncover a vast volcanic wilderness, dominated by the soaring peak of magnificent Mount Teide – the world’s third highest volcano. Then it’s on to Gran Canaria and the island’s capital, Las Palmas. Architectural delights await your admiration in the city’s pretty Veguta district, as well as the nearby towns of Teror and Arucas, awash with fine colonial-style structures. You could also journey into the picturesque Agaete Valley, or tour to the radiant Maspalomas Beach – an oasis of rolling sand dunes, crystal-clear waters and inviting lagoons – to make the most of Gran Canaria’s renowned tropical climate.
La Palma, affectionately known as the ‘Pretty Island’, is your final Canarian call. Boasting stunning scenery ranging from vast, untouched forests to the lava covered landscape of the dramatic San Antonio Volcano, La Palma – an UNESCO-listed Biosphere Reserve – certainly lives up to its nickname. Santa Cruz is your gateway to the island’s many natural wonders, including the spectacular Caldera de Taburiente National Park, home of one of the world’s largest volcanic craters, and the prehistoric Los Tilos forest. After spending three consecutive days exploring sun-kissed Spanish islands, you’ll also visit the Portuguese ‘garden island’ island of Madeira. From Funchal you can explore the island’s lush landscapes via the unique levada trails; take in the enchanting botanical gardens, a flood of colourful, sweet smelling flora; or head to the Cabo Girão sea cliff for remarkable ocean views. You could even indulge with afternoon tea at the world-famous Reid’s Hotel. Boudicca will then sail to Gibraltar, offering you the chance to encounter wild Barbary apes and superb views at the top of the iconic ‘rock’, before you finally disembark in Malaga.
