South America Cruises

Find the explorer within you and go in search of sun, sea, sand and samba in South America on board Balmoral. Sailing from Southampton in January 2016, you will embark on an epic 46-night journey of discovery and visit a string of fascinating destinations in three stunning South American countries.

Beautiful Brazil hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup and is preparing to welcome the world’s attention once again in 2016 as host of the Olympic Games, so this is a great time to visit this spectacular country. You will visit eight Brazilian ports of call in total, offering you the chance to experience the contrast between the hustle and bustle of huge cities and the peace and tranquillity of untouched natural retreats. Be part of the world-famous carnival and visit a number of iconic sites including the awe-inspiring ‘Christ the Redeemer’ statue and famous Copacabana Beach during an extended stay in Rio; explore the Mata Atlântica rainforest from Ilha Grande; and immerse yourself in Brazilian culture in Forteleza, which is home to the wonderful Centro Dragao do Mar de Arte e Cultura. There’s also the chance to explore the UNESCO-listed historic heart of Brazil’s former capital, Salvador; and enjoy a maiden call to the gorgeous coastal city of Maceio, which boasts fantastic white-sand beaches and fascinating coral reefs.

There are also calls to two fantastic Uruguayan cities offering completely contrasting experiences. Explore the delightful Ciudad Vieja (Old City) in Montevideo – South America’s southernmost capital – to see some of the country’s most beautiful and iconic buildings including the 26-storey high Palacio Salvo, 19th century Teatro Solis and the Metropolitan Cathedral; and follow in the footsteps of many celebrities as you wander along La Gorlero in Punta Del Este, a glamourous resort with beautiful beaches and an elegant yacht-filled harbour. Another highlight of this cruise is a call to the vivacious and seductive capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. Here you can get well and truly into the Latin spirit of the country by learning to dance the traditional tango and by checking out the many bars and restaurants to taste delicious local cuisine. A two day stay also allows you time to appreciate the intricate detail and ornate designs of the city’s fine architecture.
