DRIFT AWAY WITH FRED !

6 August 2008

Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines has secured one of the world’s greatest pop groups for a cruise to the Canary Islands this winter.  Join Balmoral as she sails from Dover on 4th January 2009 for a thirteen-night cruise and be entertained by The Drifters – the longest running band in pop history.

The Drifters have been in existence since 1953, founded by ex-Dominoes singer Clyde McPhatter and Ahmet Ertegun, who also started Atlantic Records.  Despite a constantly changing line-up, the band has retained its distinctive sound and enjoyed a series of hit records over the years – many of their songs will be familiar to Fred. Olsen’s baby boomer audience – classics such as “Come on Over to My Place”, “Saturday Night at the Movies” and “Under the Boardwalk”.

This amazing group has notched up 50 hit records and sold 214 million singles and 114 million albums worldwide. Their new album, “The Drifters: Five Decades and Moore”, was recently launched in memory of late band member Johnny Moore.

There are several copycat bands in existence, but this is the only genuine Drifters line-up. Fred.Olsen guests aboard Balmoral in January can dance the night away to some authentic classic songs guaranteed to take them back to their youth, as well as some new numbers from this legendary group!

The cruise visits Lisbon, then the islands of Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and  la Gomera in the Canaries, with Madeira the last port before journey’s end in Dover.   Prices currently start from £897 per person.

As well as the star attraction of The Drifters on board, the cruise also has a theme of Comedy through Fred.Olsen’s programme of special interests The ArtsClub and additionally offers Flagship Golf – an exclusive package for golfers – for an extra £350 per player.
