Is a hairdryer provided in my room?

Hairdryers are supplied in all rooms. Some rooms may have hairdryers fixed to the walls within the bathrooms, whilst others have the traditional hand held type. If any guests have specific hairdryer needs, we recommend they pack & bring their own hairdryer onboard to ensure they meet their requirements.

Do you have any rooms with a bath rather than a shower?

All of our cruise ships have a limited number of room grades with both a bathtub and a shower.  Where a bathtub is specified, the shower will usually be over the bathtub. These rooms grades can be found on the deck plans for your chosen cruise ship, and are indicated by a triangle symbol.

 

Can I have an Ocean View room with a picture window?

Yes, it is possible to select an Ocean View room with a picture window rather than a porthole, on board your cruise ship. Details of the Superior Ocean View and Outside Ocean View room types can be found on the deck plans for your chosen ship.

What facilities are present in the rooms?

Each room grade on every one of our cruise ships has a television.

Other facilities available include a telephone and hairdryer; and on Balmoral and Braemar there is also a safe in each room. 

Selected suites on board our cruise ships also have fridges or mini-bars included.

If you upgrade to a Suite, you can benefit from our Suite Dreams package.

What plug adaptors are in the rooms and are they available to hire?

All our cruise ships feature 2 pin Continental style plug (220 volt-60 Hz). Please note for Black Watch only, since the ship entered dry dock some cabins now feature a standard UK 3 pin plug

Adapters can be hired on board or can be purchased at the on board shop.

What extras are provided in my room if I book a suite?

You'll be able to relax in comfort no matter which cabin grade you choose to stay in on board our ships, but to enhance your experience even further, you'll find treating yourself to a Suite will give you a distinctly superior experience.

Is there a fridge in my room?

Fridges are available in all suites on board all of our ships. A fridge may be requested for your cabin for storing of medical supplies which require refrigeration, but these are limited, so please speak with our Reservations team when making your booking.

Will my room window have a restricted view?

Selected rooms on board our cruise ships have restricted views - these are indicated with the following symbols on the deck plans .  restricted view rooms

If my room has twin beds, can these be converted to a double?

On both Balmoral and Braemar, some rooms have two moveable beds that may convert into one double bed, and suite accommodation on all four of our ships may offer twin or double beds.

Throughout your cruise holiday, your room beds will be made up for you by your stewardess whilst you are enjoying your evening meal. Bedding configurations vary across the fleet, so please check your confirmation invoice for details. Many rooms on Braemar, Boudicca and Balmoral can be configured as either a twin or double, and this will be detailed on your confirmation invoice where applicable. If you would like the conversion from twin to double please advise your travel agent or our Guest Services Department on 01473 292444.

Do your ships have rooms adapted for wheelchair users?

A limited number of rooms on each ship have been adapted to facilitate more comfortable occupation for such guests. These rooms are designed to have wide thresholds to facilitate the acceptance of a wheelchair or scooter. 

We must stress that these rooms have been modified based on original specifications as opposed to purpose built, and consequently may still pose difficulties to those guests fully reliant upon a wheelchair.

For example, bathrooms on Black Watch have a small ‘ridge’ to negotiate in the shower area which retains the shower water. This can hinder the manoeuvrability of a wheelchair. On Braemar we would not recommend the adapted rooms to any wheelchair bound guest, owing to the very limited turning circle within the room, restricting easy access to the ramped bathroom entrance.

For all adapted rooms, there are no handrails in the main room area, only in the shower/WC. A rail is provided to assist with use of the WC and a fixed seat is provided in the shower. In effect the entire floor of your bathroom acts as the shower tray. Your dedicated Stewardess will naturally clean and dry the floor as required. Bed and toilet heights are relatively low, however, an additional mattress and/or raised toilet seat can be requested. All rooms have a telephone link with both the ship’s Guest Services and Medical Centre.

Guests are welcome to bring or privately hire additional equipment, such as hoists if required. With prior approval from F.OCL the delivery/collection and safe use of such equipment will be entirely the responsibility of the individual.

In our opinion, Boudicca is the most wheelchair friendly vessel in our fleet owing to the very generous room dimensions and layout.

For 2018 departures onwards, in addition to the Adapted Rooms available on our ships, many Non Adapted rooms will also be made available for guests using wheelchairs or scooters.

Guests with collapsible wheelchairs will be able to book most Non Adapted Rooms on board; guests with non-collapsible wheelchairs will only be permitted to book an Adapted Room, or a room with space for non-collapsible wheelchairs. Please speak to our Reservations Team for more information.

For guests bringing scooters on board, the following applies for 2018 departures onwards:

Black Watch – Scooters of any type will only be permitted in fully adapted rooms

Boudicca – Scooters or any type will not permitted in rooms on deck 3 & 4. Scooters up to 56cm wide will only be permitted in rooms suitable for non-collapsible wheelchairs and scooters; only fully adapted rooms will be suitable for larger scooters.

Braemar – Non-collapsible scooters up to 56cm wide will only be permitted in rooms suitable for non-collapsible wheelchairs and scooters, or fully adapted rooms. Collapsible scooters will be permitted in most rooms on board.

Balmoral – Non-collapsible scooters will only be permitted in fully adapted rooms. Collapsible scooters will be permitted in most rooms on board.

Storage of Mobility Devices

For 2018 departures onwards, all mobility devices must be stored within the guest’s room on board. Guests will not be permitted to leave their mobility devices in corridors and stairwells where they can pose an obstruction and potential safety hazard in the event of an emergency. In addition, for 2018 onwards we will no longer store mobility devices on the guest’s behalf on board. 

Will there be an iron in my room?

No, but each of our cruise ships has a Laundry Room with irons and ironing boards, washing machines and tumble dryers, as we appreciate that occasionally there are items you may wish to deal with yourself.

We also have an on board laundry service, which your room staff will be happy to arrange for you.  Details of this will be in your room welcome pack.

Please note that travel irons are not permitted on any of our cruise ships.

Is room service available on board?

Throughout your cruise holiday, Fred. Olsen offers complimentary room service for breakfast and light snacks between 10am and 10pm each day, offering light snacks (except during embarkation and disembarkation times). Beverages are available 24 hours a day, and the menu will be in your room.  All rooms on all cruise ships have complimentary tea/coffee making facilities.

On Balmoral and Braemar you can order breakfast on the TV in your room, by visiting 'Breakfast Service' from the main menu, or by calling room service.

If required, bath robes can be hired from Guest Services (subject to availability). A deposit of £35 is charged to your on board account, with £25 refunded when the robe is returned at the end of your cruise.

Are toiletries provided on board?

In all rooms across the fleet:

  • Liquid hand wash, body wash and shower gel dispensers are provided in the bathroom.

In Owners, Premier and Marquee Suites, in addition to the above hand & body lotion, dispensers are also provided.

Items such as shower caps, shoe mitts, sewing kits, vanity kits and small bars of soap are available on request from your stewardess.

Are towels provided on board?

Yes, we provide towels in all rooms on board our cruise ships, but we request that you leave these in your room, as we also provide specific towels for use by the pools.

Upgrade to our Suite Dreams package and benefit from a bathrobe and slippers, and luxury towels.

Are there tea and coffee making facilities in all rooms?

All rooms on all our cruise ships have complimentary tea and coffee making facilities.
