This is an ideal opportunity for us to absorb the atmosphere of country life at a really colourful Argentine feast in the pampas. Buenos Aires is a sprawling metropolis, which abruptly ends where endless fields of green pastures dotted with cattle and horses begin.
On our arrival at the estancia (ranch) – following a drive of approximately one-and-a-half hours – ‘empanadas’ (traditional Argentine meat pies) will be prepared for us to sample. After an opportunity to stroll around the grounds and settle into the slower pace of life, lunch will be ready – the main event! – including the world-renowned Argentine beef. Dining will be ‘family style’ and we could find ourselves sharing with other patrons at the estancia. Live entertainment is supplied by ‘gauchos’ in their typical dress, dancing to their unique folkloric music.
After lunch has settled the fun moves on to an open field, for a display of the gauchos’ skilful abilities on horseback.
TOUR NOTES: While there is some walking involved in this tour, it is considered suitable for guests with limited mobility – as long as they have someone on the tour that can assist them and they can board a coach unaided. Please note that we will be transferred from our ship by shuttle bus to the cruise terminal building, through which there is an approximate 100-metre (300 feet) walk. If there has been heavy rain the day before our arrival, it is probable that the gauchos’ horseback display will be cancelled for safety reasons. Horses are available for guests to ride at the estancia however, no riding hats are supplied; participation is at the guests’ own risk and expense – Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines cannot be held responsible for this activity. This tour may not be exclusive to Fred Olsen guests.
