TOUR D - HAHOLMEN - A VIKING ADVENTURE
Excursions
- 75 - 85
- Approximately 5.5 hours
- Limited capacity
- Agile to get in/out boat
We join our coach and pass through Molde and across the hills to the charming fishing village of Bud. In the 16th century Bud was the largest trading post between Bergen and Trondheim. The National Council of Norway met here until 1533. After a photo stop, we continue to Hustadvika – an ill-reputed stretch of coastline. The notorious waters of Hustadvika conceal innumerable wrecks and rich animal and plant life – a diver’s paradise.
Then we reach the impressive Atlantic Ocean Road. Built across islets and skerries, and linked by eight bridges, the road workers experienced twelve hurricanes during the construction of the Atlantic Road, before it was opened in 1989. Today many people take a trip out here when storms start to rage – it is quite a sight when the big waves break beside, and sometimes across, the road.
We will then board a genuine replica of a Viking ship for a short crossing to reach the island of Håholmen – a peaceful fishing community in Hustadvika Bay. Worthy of preservation, it has served as a meeting place, harbour, home and workplace for fishermen, sailors, shopkeepers and travellers for hundreds of years. The island was the home of the adventurer Ragnar Thorseth and we will see a film presentation showing some of his adventures and see one of the ships which was wrecked during a storm in the Mediterranean. We will have some free time here to look around the village, which also has cabins for holiday stays, and will have refreshments.
Returning to Molde, we drive through the village of Eide and continue along the Moldefjord back to the urban area and our awaiting ship.

There is walking at Bud and Håholmen, over some uneven terrain, and steps to get in and out of the Viking boat, which is not covered.
