TOUR B - POLAR NATURE PARK
Excursions
- £75 - £85
- Approximately 5 hours
- Limited capacity
Departing from the pier, we drive along the shoreline to the Rombakfjord. Here we cross the suspension bridge, enjoying an impressive view of the narrow fjord where fierce battles took place during World War II.
We continue towards our destination, the northernmost zoo in the world – a park in the heart of the wilderness, enabling us to observe in peaceful surroundings the four predators to be found in polar regions (wolves, lynx, bears and wolverines), in their natural habitat. Musk oxen, elk, reindeer, mountain foxes and badgers are also present. The Salang River flows through the valley, and the wild animals roam on one bank. As the animals are in large enclosures, they may not all be visible to us during our visit.
Following a guided tour of the park with one of the knowledgeable staff, refreshments and some free time, we return to Narvik.
TOUR NOTES: This tour covers approximately one and a half miles during our guided walk, some of which will be over a steep gradient, therefore it is unsuitable for guests with limited mobility. The park is wheelchair accessible, but due to the inclines it can be hard work for manual wheelchair users. Please note that it is strictly forbidden to feed the animals. We can not guarantee the sighting of all the above mentioned animals - they are in enclosures, but can not always be seen. The drive to and from the park takes approximately one hour – we will be accompanied by an escort from the ship and met by our guide at the park.
