TOUR B - THE ATLANTIC OCEAN ROAD
Excursions
- 50 - 60
- 3 hours
We join our coach and pass through Molde and across the hills to the Hustadvika – an ill-reputed stretch of coastline. The notorious waters of Hustadvika conceal innumerable wrecks and rich animal and plant life – a diver’s paradise.
Then we reach the impressive Atlantic Ocean Road. Built across islets and skerries, and linked by eight bridges, the road workers experienced twelve hurricanes during the construction of the Atlantic Road, before it was opened in 1989. Today many people take a trip out here when storms start to rage – it is quite a sight when the big waves break beside and sometimes across the road.
Returning to Molde we pass a national conservation area, home to numerous species of birds, including the Whooper Swan. We drive on through the village of Eide, and continue along the Moldefjord back to the urban area and continue back to our ship.
TOUR NOTES: This tour is a scenic coach journey and involves only optional walking at photo stops along the Atlantic Ocean Road. Please note that places of interest may be visited in a different order to that described.
