From Visby on the west coast we will travel south east across the limestone plateau of which the island is comprised, towards the centre of Gotland. Proceeding through the agricultural districts of Träkumla, Vall and Atlingbo, we shall stop a while at Mästerby to visit one of the 92 fine medieval churches in the area. We now turn north via Västergarn to Gnisvärd, a picturesque fishing village dating back to the 17th century, once Gotland’s main fishing village. Today we can still visit one of the picturesque boat houses and the chapel from 1830. After our stop we continue to Suderbys Herrgård for a coffee break. Continuing our drive along the massive cliffs of Högklint, we shall see views of the coastline and the walled city of Visby in the distance. Upon arrival in Visby, there will be a guided walk through the narrow medieval streets. Passing the cathedral on the way to Almedalen, we will rejoin our coach and return to our ship.
There is a moderate amount of walking at each of the stops (the guided walk in the walled city of Visby is optional), but passengers may choose to stay on the coach if they prefer. Please note that photographic or video cameras should not be used in the church.
