Riga has been an important centre for trade, finance and culture for centuries and offers an experience of architecture over the centuries. From its medieval castles and churches, to the urban structure of later periods and the richness and quality of Art Noveau to the wooden architecture of the 19th century. This historic centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Situated on the banks of the Daugava River, Riga was once one of the most important Hanseatic cities. Until 1856, fortification walls and earthen ramparts surrounded it. Since then there has been much change, although many buildings have been preserved and renovated in the Old Town, which we shall visit on this tour.

The Baltic Sea spa resort of Jurmala is located on the Gulf of Riga, approximately 20 kilometres from the Latvian capital. It is a town with a 32 kilometre long sandy beach and a wonderful architectural heritage.
