KORSOR, DENMARK

Korsør is a charming town founded in 1241, geographically divided in a special way – the town is closed off by water on two sides – The Cove to the east and the Great Belt to the west. The approach channel to The Cove divides the town in two, forming a northern and a southern part.

Korsør is a charming town founded in 1241, geographically divided in a special way – the town is closed off by water on two sides – The Cove to the east and the Great Belt to the west. The approach channel to The Cove divides the town in two, forming a northern and a southern part. The southern part is the original Korsør and is what we will visit today. We shall enjoy seeing the many well preserved houses. Many famous people have passed through the town over time and our guide will tell us about these. Some of the highlights of our tour include the centre of art & culture and Kongegaarden (the King’s Yard) – one of the finest houses in Korsør, built in 1761 and used as an inn when King Christian VII stayed overnight while waiting for fair weather to cross the Great Belt. Continuing along the old streets we will view the old fortress, dating back to the foundation of the town. We also pay a visit to the City and Ferry Traffic Museum – located in the Great Storehouse constructed by King Christian IV in the 16th century. Our walking tour also takes us along charming, old narrow streets and lively squares. At the end of the tour we will have the option of walking back to our ship with our guide, or staying in the town and making our own way back.

Walking on this tour is considered strenuous, with a distance of approximately four kilometres (two and a half miles) covered. A group will have ten to twenty people per guide. If we choose to remain in the town at the end of the tour, getting back to the ship will be at our own expense.
