We travel by coach from Flåm along the fjord, a branch of the lovely Sognefjord, to Aurland – a small yet thriving village, with a 13th century Gothic style church in the centre. From here we journey inland along the salmon river Aurland, past Vassbygda Lake.
We travel by coach from Flåm along the fjord, a branch of the lovely Sognefjord, to Aurland – a small yet thriving village, with a 13th century Gothic style church in the centre. From here we journey inland along the salmon river Aurland, past Vassbygda Lake. At Vassbygda there is a hydroelectric plant, the generators of which are cleverly hidden inside the mountain. Ascending the Låvisdal Valley via several bends, and partly through tunnels, we can enjoy the beautiful view of the villages of Vassbygda and Aurland. Continuing further upwards, we eventually arrive in the spectacular Aurlands Valley, rich in flora and fauna. We will travel as far as Østerbø. Here refreshments are served in the small mountain lodge, once a farm but uninhabited since the 1920’s. During winter, the farm was completely isolated, cut off from the rest of the world for many months! We return to our ship.
Only a little walking is required during this tour, therefore it is considered suitable for passengers with limited mobility. There are four or five steps to enter the lodge.
