Departing from the quay in Oslo, we board our coach and head towards the Hadeland Glassworks, a little over an hour’s drive away through the rich farmlands of south eastern Norway. Hadeland Glassworks started production in 1762 and is wonderfully situated near Lake Randsfjord. Arriving at Hadeland we will have a guided tour of the factory, where we can see glass being hand blown. We may choose to purchase a beautiful piece as a souvenir. We will enjoy a three course lunch here, before returning to the city. Most of the return drive will be along the Tyrifjord Lake, through green lands and forests which have inspired Norwegian fairytales. Upon arrival back in Oslo we will visit the fantastic Vigeland Sculpture Park. The artist Gustav Vigeland created 192 sculptures with more than 600 figures, in granite and bronze – he also designed the architectural setting and layout of the grounds. We will also visit the Viking Ships Museum. Our tour ends with a drive through the city centre of Oslo.
This tour involves walking at each of the sites visited. There is some walking and standing at the Glassworks. The tour through the Vigeland Sculpture Park covers a distance of approximately 850 metres (2,800 feet), on partly paved, partly gravelled ground; there are several flights of steps, totalling somewhere in the region of 100 steps to negotiate (there are ramps in most places for wheelchairs, but this will mean leaving the guide and group). Not suitable for passengers with limited mobility.
