We leave the quayside by coach for a panoramic drive around the bastions of Valletta that house most of Malta’s rich heritage of history, art, archaeology, architecture and culture. We will also pass by Fort St Elmo, the historic fort at the tip of the Valletta peninsula.
We leave the quayside by coach for a panoramic drive around the bastions of Valletta that house most of Malta’s rich heritage of history, art, archaeology, architecture and culture. We will also pass by Fort St Elmo, the historic fort at the tip of the Valletta peninsula. We will walk to the magisterial Palace, formally the residence of the Grand Master of the Order of St John, for a visit to the staterooms and tapestry chamber. Continuing on, we shall visit St John’s Co-Cathedral, Malta’s greatest treasure where we will have the opportunity to see the famous painting by Caravaggio; the Beheading of St John. Proceeding to Mdina (the Silent City), we now walk through the narrow streets of this medieval city, passing by some of the best Norman and Baroque architecture on the island. We shall see the old Cathedral, which is fronted by a large square, the only open space you’ll find within this tiny city, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the island from the bastions.
There is approximately 3 hours walking involved in this tour mostly over flat ground, however some steps and uneven ground may be encountered. Please wear appropriate attire as we shall be visiting the Cathedral (vest tops, shorts and stilettos will not be permitted). There may be occasions when either the Cathedral is closed due to religious functions or the Magisterial Palace is not open due to parliamentary sittings or official events without any prior notice. Should this be the case, we will instead visit the Palace Armoury and/ or the Museum of Archaeology.
