Our tour will start with a short walking from our ship to the nearby harbour of Naples, where we shall board our boat to transfer us to the Island of Capri. Capri is still one of the most famous summer resorts in the Mediterranean and has been since the time of the ancient Roman Empire. Roman villas such as Villa Jove and other rich properties belonging to Roman Emperors, such as Caesar Augustus and Tiberius, can still be visited and admired. On arrival at the main port of Capri – Marina Grande – we will be transferred to Anacapri village to visit the famous Villa San Michele, an ancient property built on the ruins of one of Tiberius’s Palaces. It was taken over by the Swedish doctor and author Axel Munthe, writer of the famous Life of San Michele, who made it his home. The villa is now a museum of his paintings and furnishings. Our tour will then proceed to Capri Village where a typical Italian lunch will be served. Following lunch we shall have some free time to explore independently or browse for some gifts. At the end of our visit we will be transferred from the main square of Capri – La Piazzetta – to the landing pier, where we will take the boat back to Naples.
Please note that the boat used to transfer us to the Island of Capri is not exclusive to Fred Olsen passengers. This tour does include walking uphill (some areas may be steep) over uneven ground. There will be stairs at the restaurant and the Villa San Michele to negotiate. This tour is not recommended for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users.
