CAGLIARI, SARDINIA

As we leave our ship we will enjoy a scenic tour of Cagliari. Travelling along the main streets of the town, we reach the Basilica of Bonaria, which stands against the old church in Aragonese-Gothic style; from here we can admire a complete view over the Gulf of Cagliari.

As we leave our ship we will enjoy a scenic tour of Cagliari. Travelling along the main streets of the town, we reach the Basilica of Bonaria, which stands against the old church in Aragonese-Gothic style; from here we can admire a complete view over the Gulf of Cagliari. We continue along the coast to reach Poetto, a sandy beach stretching more than 10 kilometres (6 miles). On its south western limit is the characteristic rocky formation known as ‘Stella del Diavolo’ (devil’s Saddle). The salt pools in the area are an extraordinary scarlet colour during the period of maximum water evaporation, and in the winter they attract a large number of birds – especially pink flamingos. From Poetto, almost without interruption, our drive takes us along the scenic coast road to Villasimius. We will see a continuous line of villa’s, hotels and restaurants along the coves, inlets and promontories of this attractive coastline. Villasimius is dotted with small saltwater lagoons and white sandy coves flanked by smooth granite boulders. This is a scenic tour that involves little walking.
