At the highest peak of Santorini – at an altitude of approximately 610 metres (2,000 feet) – we will glimpse the monastery of Profitis Ilias. The breathtaking view here is sure to captivate us.
Our tour begins from the ship’s landing stage, where we board local tenders for the transfer to Athenios harbour. We then proceed by coach to enjoy a scenic ascent via the colourful rocky sides of the caldera (crater), affording a spectacular panorama of the island.
At the highest peak of Santorini – at an altitude of approximately 610 metres (2,000 feet) – we will glimpse the monastery of Profitis Ilias. The breathtaking view here is sure to captivate us. After this stop, we continue to the vineyards of Santo, where we will be guided around the cellars of a local winery, and can have the opportunity to taste wines from the region.
Our tour continues with a pleasant drive through the lovely traditional villages of the stunning island towards Oia, located on the northern side of Santorini. Upon arrival in Oia, we begin a guided sightseeing walk in the village. Next we can enjoy some free time to explore the artists’ workshops, admire the architecture and typical Santorinian style of houses and churches, or relax in a café overlooking the volcano (at the passengers’ own cost).
Re-boarding our tour coach, we travel to Fira – the attractive capital of Santorini. Here we will enjoy a leisurely stroll to the town centre, where we will have free time to browse the shops and boutiques.
Finally we take the cable-car down to the small harbour of Scala, from where our tenders will take us back to our ship.
TOUR NOTES: This tour involves approximately one hour of compulsory walking, some of which will be over cobbled and uphill terrain. There are around ten steps to negotiate at the winery, 15 to 20 steps in Oia and some steps up to the cable-car station, therefore it is not suitable for passengers with limited mobility or wheelchair users. The amount of walking during the periods of free time is at the discretion of the individual. Please note that passengers are kindly requested to exchange their shore excursion ticket for a cable-car ticket (for the return) during disembarkation. We cannot guarantee the opening of the artists’ workshops in Oia. For reference, the boat transfer to Athenios harbour takes approximately 15 minutes. Please note that while it is possible to partake in a donkey ride independently in Santorini, it is not recommended, and is at the passenger’s own risk. This tour may operate in a different order to that described.
