Thira, Santorini

-
Explore the extraordinary landscape of Santorini's western edge.
Legend has it that the island of Santorini in the Cyclades is the site of Plato's lost city of Atlantis. The magnificent landscape is the result of the eruption in 1450 BC of a marine volcano, the sheer cliffs of whose caldera rim climb high into the Aegean sky. You can reach the white houses of clifftop Thira Town by cable car or donkey, while further afield Akrotiri offers a glimpse of the Minoan civilisation.
