The sun-bleached little capital, framed by its distinctive thatched windmills and shimmering seas, is for many the loveliest of the Aegean's island towns - sophisticated and 'chic' in mood, with a colourful waterfront, a maze of narrow streets (designed, it is said, to confuse marauding pirates) and sugar-white, flower-decked houses.
