    Iraklion, Crete

Capital of the ruggedly beautiful Crete, largest of the Greek Islands.

Crete’s legends and history dates back 5,000 years to the Minoans, Europe's first civilisation. Here was born Zeus, king of the gods, and here at the site of Knossos was the fabled labyrinth where Theseus slew the Minotaur. Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Turks have all left their mark, and more recent monuments to the battles of World War II abound.

    • TOUR A - PALACE OF KNOSSOS & HISTORICAL MUSEUM
    • Iraklion, Crete, Greece
    • HERAKLION, GREECE

Departing the quayside, we travel to the famous Minoan Palace of Knossos. Recreated by Sir Arthur Evans, who conducted systematic excavations, Knossos represents a culture dating back over 5,000 years.

    • TOUR B - TRADITIONAL CRAFTS OF CRETE
    • Iraklion, Crete, Greece
    • HERAKLION, GREECE

Crete is an island of contrasts – cosmopolitan and overdeveloped in some areas, rough and unspoiled in others. Visitors to this island, Greece’s biggest, may find jagged mountains, harsh and barren lands, lush wooded hills, fertile plateaux and broad sandy beaches.

    • TOUR C - ELOUNDA & AGHIOS NIKOLAS
    • Iraklion, Crete, Greece
    • HERAKLION, GREECE

From the pier we drive eastwards to reach the Greek Orthodox Monastery of St George Selinaris, to see its tiny church and baptistery.
