Departing from the pier we will make our way to Primorsky Park with its musical fountains for a short stop. The park is made up of five parallel alleys and is separated by lawns, cafes and accurately cut square laurel bushes. We will then make our way to the waterfall of “Makhuntseti” where we will be able to enjoy the cool breeze from the waterfalls and swim if we choose in the pure cold water. Arched stone bridges take an important place among the monuments of existing material culture in Adjara. There are more than ten such bridges; Purtio, Tkhemlari, Makhuntseti, Dandalo amongst others. Various versions regarding the time of their construction and the name of their builders exist. There is a supposition though, that the bridges were built by Venetians and Genuyans. According to the other supposition the bridges had been built before Queen Tamar’s reign (1184 – 1207). According to another legend the Makhuntseti, Dandalo and Purtio bridges were simultaneously built by Queen Tamar – most of the bridges are connected to her name. Arched stone bridges still surprise most visitors by the compactness, calculations, precision and pride with which they firmly stand over the rough rivers leading from the waterfalls. Then we will continue on to enjoy our Georgian-style lunch near a waterfall. Once we have taken in all of our surroundings and had free time to explore we will then reboard our coach for our return journey back to our awaiting ship.
Please be aware there is approximately 40 minutes walking in Primorsky Park and 2 hours walking at the waterfalls and stone bridges. There will be approximately 10 steps to climb at the stone bridges.
