On departure from our ship we will make the approximate 1-hour drive along the highway to the northern countryside towards Tagliolo, where the homonymous Castle is located. In this enchanted place, surrounded by its medieval walls, we will be able to breathe the atmosphere of the secular traditions.

In this enchanted place, surrounded by its medieval walls, we will be able to breathe the atmosphere of the secular traditions. The Castle of Tagliolo is the unique site in the surrounding area to have maintained its own vineyards and a working cellar. The history of Tagliolo dates back to the 11th century, when the first look out towers were built on the hills of Ovada. In 1498 Tagliolo came into the possession of the Marquis Pinelli Gentile. With an upper tower of 38 metres it is a site that can be seen from a fair distance around the city. Castello di Tagliolo has produced wine since the middle of the 14th century. The castles own vineyards are situated just outside the town, which makes for nice strolls. Tagliolo is the only castle in the area, which has its own production of wine, which are being refined inside the castle's cellars. Once inside the castle we will be able to “smell” the Italian wine and taste it in a unique frame. Once our tasting session is complete we will make our way back to our coach for the return journey back to the ship. There is approximately 2 hours of walking or standing involved in this tour where cobblestones and steps may be encountered.
