This tour offers a unique opportunity to get acquainted with such outstanding historical sites as the mountain fortifications of Balaklava – once a secret military port - former underground Submarine base and Spare Command Post of the Black Sea Fleet. The underground Submarine base was built as a precaution, in case there was ever a direct hit from an atomic bomb. Besides the tunnel gantries, leading to arsenals, there used to be repair shops, and even a dry-dock underground. Everything necessary for putting a submarine into service was stationed there, including dozens of machines, thousands of ready-mixed repair pieces and hoisting cranes. Following our visit to this spectacular site, we will take a walk along Balaklava bay. We shall have some free time here to explore independently the souvenir shops or to soak up the atmosphere in one of the many cafes/ restaurants.

Please note that there is a considerable amount of walking involved in this tour, mostly over uneven ground. We recommend that you wear comfortable, flat walking shoes and you take a jacket or pullover with you, as the temperature may be very cool underground. Please note that the Submarine Base is no longer used, therefore we shall not see any Submarines during our visit.
